IAS Sreenath K, a native of Munnar worked as a coolie in Ernakulam, Kerala which is the closest central railway station to Munnar. Sreenath was from a middle-class family. He used to work as a person carrying the luggage and bags of the passengers at the railway station. He financially supported his family with all dedication.

His life and job became very tough as a young man. He did his job effectively with all devotion, as a result, he became an authorized porter, Coolie No. 343 of his coolie batch after passing the essential physical test and did the same for five extended years.

In 2018, at the age of 27, when he became the father of a one-year-old daughter, he realized that his income was sufficient for his family. He never wanted his little daughter to suffer in life due to his fewer earnings.

He felt very sad and disheartened when he shared his story of working the full day as well as in the night and still earning barely 400-500 rupees per day. He was a very mature person with the realization of his responsibilities. He worked hard for his family for a good income to have a better living.

Instead of spending on books or any coaching classes, Sreenath only took the advantage of free wifi to enable him to prepare for the examination. A smartphone, a memory card, a pair of earphones and free wifi were all just things required for him to accomplish his goals

He passed the written examination of the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). However, Sreenath was only wishing for a job that could empower him with some power to alter the course of his village and assist him in better raising his family by a reasonable monthly income. He was striving to get a job as a village field assistant under the land revenue department of the government.

“It’s only a matter of practice and patience. I will keep giving exams. Until the exams become easy for me and I get a good score.”
