Physical Training

A candidate who meets all physical and medical requirements for IPS (Indian Police Service) will begin their 2+ years assessment period at LBSNAA, Mussoorie for the Foundation Course. The Foundation Course is part of the regular training for IAS, IPS and IFS officers. Once selected for IPS, candidates would complete 11 months of academic training at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad. A candidate would undergo training both inside and outside.

Schedule of IPS Officer Training

Four sections of instruction are offered to IPS recruits:

#1. Foundation Course (three months): LBSNAA, Mussoorie

#2. Training (11-month Basic Course): The National Police Academy Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Hyderabad

#3. Preparation for District Practical (6 months): in the required environment

#4. Training (1 month): National Police Academy Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVPNPA), Hyderabad

The Purpose of the IPS Officer Training

The basic course’s primary goal is to develop the probationers’ ability to handle the specialised challenges of their field. This course has the following objectives:

#. Building capacity through sensitisation, orientation, and competency development.

#. Technical expertise and comprehension are imparted.

#. Create technical, interpersonal, and culturally relevant capabilities.

#. Nurture and instil respect for human values, appropriate behaviour, and healthy living habits.

#. Build excellent character, discipline, attitudes, soft skills, standards, etiquette, values.

IPS Physical Test

Physical tests for IPS candidates are not required to take an outdoor test (physical test). Medical qualifications are required for this service.

If you are selected for IPS through UPSC, you will undergo a 14-week Foundation Course at LBSNAA. At this time, faculty from SVP NPA visits LBSNAA to assist IPS probationers with various topics, such as physical fitness and how to prepare for the gruelling NPA basic training. They will guide you.

Outdoor training is a fresh experience for most of the IPS probationers. Their physical condition doesn’t allow them to participate in outdoor training. The reason behind this is that they spent their entire time and energy achieving good marks in the UPSC to get into IPS. Therefore, they are physically weak when they join SVPNPA. NPA, however, has a dedicated training team that makes sure probationers become officers in no time and gain fitness along the way. The facilities at SVPNPA include a modern gym, outdoor training infrastructure, and dedicated training staff.

Note: After joining the academy, you will be subjected to all the physical testing.

Tips to Clear the Medical Test or Physical Test for IPS

An aspirant for an IPS officer position should groom himself/herself immaculately to be fit and to be able to prove their abilities and skills to serve in this coveted post. The UPSC Civil Services Exam is not the only thing a candidate must prepare for to be an IPS officer – one must also hone their fitness and commit to working diligently to pass the test.

You need to work out and improve your strength in the upper and lower body. Getting ready early will make the fitness test easier for you. With a fitness/wellness program, you can protect yourself, value your career and continue to enjoy good health after retirement.

Following are a few tips you can take to prepare for medical examinations for IPS.

#. Learn the physical skills used in the physical and medical requirements for IPS.

#. You can make a fitness plan. Under the guidance of a physical trainer, you can also go to the gym or hire a trainer.

#. You will not be able to pass the physical test for IPS if you start preparing at the last minute. When you know when the fitness test will be conducted, start preparing well in advance.

#. Walking, jogging, swimming, and other aerobic activities are also good for maintaining good blood circulation.

#. Most physical fitness tests for IPS require push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups. Candidates must learn these and practice them well. Candidates are tested on how many of these exercises they can perform in a minute, so timing your workouts is recommended.

#. To prepare for the running portion of the test, candidates can walk five times a week and then progress to jogging. The overall goal is to run at a faster pace if one walks or jogs less frequently each week.

#. When a candidate takes the weight lifting section of the test, he or she must know the weight to lift and should start lifting that amount and then add 5 pounds. As you progress toward the physical test’s maximum weight, lift the weight each week.

Are IPS Students Turned Down Due to Knock Knees?

With knock-knees, you are sure to be rejected from the PS Medical fitness test because you may stumble and fall. If, however, you are in 12th grade or in between 12th and graduation, you can reorient your knee alignment through corrective measures and doctors consultation.

Tips to Correct Knock Knees

On both knees, wear headbands. At knee level, insert a one cm piece of wood or willow and then shape the band. By inserting a thick layer of cloth behind the wedges and stitching the cloth to the band, you will have a gap of at least 2 cm between the knees.

Every night, wear these bands before going to sleep and remove them in the morning. Try walking normally with the bands after approximately three months. Although it may feel awkward at first, you’ll quickly adjust to the experience of sleeping with them.

Upon establishing a gap of 2 centimetres, and once you are convinced that it can be maintained, you can adjust the wedge to 1.5cms, 2cms and 2.5cms. It will be a smooth and harmless realignment.
