Complete Syllabus for UPSC Prelims Assistant Commandant
There are two papers in the UPSC Assistant Commandant Exam. Both papers are in written format. In paper I, candidates are tested on their general abilities and intelligence through multiple-choice questions. The second paper is descriptive and tests a candidate’s language skills.
Two hours are allotted to candidates in paper I with 250 points, and three hours to answer six questions of the descriptive type in paper II with 200 points.
UPSC Assistant Commandant Syllabus Paper I
In Paper-I of the Assistant Commandant Syllabus 2021, candidates are tested on their General Ability and Intelligence. There are 125 questions in this section, with an overall weightage of 250 marks.

UPSC Assistant Commandant Syllabus Paper II
The second paper of the UPSC assistant commandant exam is of a descriptive nature. As a matter of course, the paper-II syllabus includes General Studies, Essay and Comprehension, totalling 200 marks.
UPSC assistant commandant syllabus for Paper II has two parts:
Part A
Questions pertaining to essay writing make up 80 marks. There are two types of questions, either in Hindi or English, that have to be answered in narrative form.
As part of the UPSC Assistant Commandant syllabus, topics for the essay include geography, politics, the history of modern India, specifically the freedom struggle, economics, analytical ability, and knowledge of security and human rights issues.
Part B
A total of 120 marks will be allocated to part B, including questions on comprehension, precise writing, and other communication and language skills.
English is the only language to be used for Part II. It includes topics such as reading comprehension passages, precise writing, basic grammar, developing counter arguments, and other aspects of language testing. You should pay special attention to the flow and structure of your writings here. Other than that, work on your vocabularies, idioms and phrases.
UPSC Assistant Commandant Exam Marking Scheme
Along with knowledge of the UPSC Assistant Commandant Syllabus for the CAPF recruitment exam and the CAPF exam pattern, candidates should also be aware of the marking scheme of the CAPF exam.
Generally, negative marking is only applicable to objective type papers, i.e., the first paper.
1/3, i.e., (0.33), of the total marks for every wrong answer will be deducted from the score. Attempts to provide more than one answer to a question will receive a 1/3rd mark deducted from the candidate’s score, no matter whether all of the answers are correct. The deductions will not be made if a candidate leaves a question blank, i.e. does not mark an answer. The second paper is a descriptive one, so no negative marking applies.
Tips for the UPSC Preparation of Assistant Commandant Exam
#1. To qualify for the exams, you must go through the entire series of topics and sections that have been included in the UPSC CAPF syllabus.
#2. Make a list of the best books for UPSC CAPF and study them thoroughly. You can also refer to summaries and explanatory videos later. However, you must read the books to gain detailed knowledge.
#3. Solve previous year UPSC CAPF question papers for at least 10 years.
#4. Make a UPSC CAPF subject-wise preparation strategy and allocate the same amount of time to each subject.
#5. Make sure you improve your weak areas and strengthen your strong areas so you won’t miss any questions during the test.
#6. Organise a strict schedule for your studies and adhere to it.

Get clarifications from them by asking questions. StayHowever, stay focused on your studies and avoid lengthy conversations, since the time you have during preparation is limited.
#8. Make a habit of reading newspapers and magazines. Newspaper subscriptions in English/Hindi and regional languages are recommended. Spend your time pursuing academic studies rather than reading about politics, entertainment, etc. Make notes on the main headlines on the first two pages, then read and comprehend the editorial to make sense of all the information presented.
#9. You should read sports news and note a summary of world news.
