About West Bengal Civil Services Examination
Every year the West Bengal Public Service Commission conducts the West Bengal Civil Services Examination for recruitment of Group A, B, C and D services. The exam is conducted in three stages – prelims, mains and personality test.
The exam is conducted through offline mode but the application is done via online medium. Candidates who get selected in this exam can get posted anywhere in West Bengal.
Once a candidate gets selected as a Group A WBCS officer, he/ she gets allowed for a pay scale ranging from Rs. 15600-42000 plus grade pay of Rs. 5400. There is a confusion among many aspirants that Bengali is mandatory for WBCS but the fact is, Bengali is not mandatory. In the Mains exam, Paper I and Paper II are language papers where Bengali is one of the options among other languages such as Hindi, Nepali, English, Santali and Urdu.
