How much Rank is Required for IAS?

What is the Qualification Required for IAS?

Students need to complete a particular set of eligibility criteria to appear for the IAS exam. Candidates must check the eligibility list given below before applying for UPSC exams:

Nationality

The candidate must be a citizen of India if they want to apply for either IAS and the IPS. Apart from this, the applicant can also be a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, a refugee from Tibet who came to India before January 01, 1962, or an Individual of Indian Origin who had migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Pakistan, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Age Limit

An applicant must be at least 21 years old to be considered eligible for appearing in the UPSC exam or at most 32 years old are considered eligible. Relaxation in this criteria is given to students in the reserved categories.

Number of Attempts

Each candidate can appear a maximum of six times in the UPSC exams. Candidates belonging to SC, ST are provided with a relaxation on the number of attempts for UPSC exam. Candidates who belong to OBC category can take nine attempts of the UPSC exam. PWD candidates belonging to general categories can appear nine times in the UPSC exams. If a candidate appears on UPSC prelims, it is assumed as a UPSC attempt.

Educational Qualifications

The candidate must at least hold a bachelor’s degree from a government recognized university. Candidates who have qualified professional and technical examinations recognized by the Government are also eligible to apply. Aspirants who have completed the final year of their MBBS or any other Medical degree but are still pursuing an internship can also appear for the Main Examination.

Physical Standards

The minimum height required for IAS is 165 cm for men and 150 cm for women. The minimum chest girth required after the complete expansion is 84 cm for men and 79 cm for women. Candidates should speak clearly and not stutter while speaking. The aspirant must have good listening ability and normal ear cavity. The aspirant should not have inherent night blindness & Stereoscopic vision.
