Bangladesh signed a deal with Russia for the supply of uranium for its 2,400 MW Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP). Under the deal, Russia will supply the nuclear fuel needed for the plant during its entire life cycle. It is an under-construction 2.4 GW nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. It is being constructed at Rooppur (Rupppur), in the Pabna District of Bangladesh, on the bank of the river Padma. Work on the two units of the plants, each producing 1200 MW of electricity is scheduled to be completed in 2022 and 2024 respectively. It will be the country’s first nuclear power plant. In March 2018, A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Moscow, Russia between Russia, Bangladesh and India for implementation of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project. It is to be built by the Russian Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. In June 2018, Infrastructure major, Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC) was awarded contract for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
