In India, the primary role of the police force is to enforce laws, investigate crimes, and ensure security for people in the country. Recruitment for IPS and Civil Police Officers
IPS Officers are recruited by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) through the annual Civil Services Examination. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) exercises original jurisdiction in relation to the recruitment and all other service matters of IPS officers.
Depending on the rank, Civil Service Officers are recruited by either the Police Departments (lower level officers) or Public Service Commissions (higher-level officers) of the respective States through written tests followed by physical fitness tests. State Administrative Tribunals (SATs) exercise original jurisdiction in relation to recruitment and all other service matters of State Police Officers.
Appointment of the Respective Officers
After selection, IPS officers are allocated to a particular State. Though IPS officers are appointed by the President of India, they report to and work under the respective State Governments.
Whereas, State Police Officers are appointed by the Governors of the respective States. They are under the total control of the State Government.
Salary and Pay Scale of Civil Police Officer and IPS Officers
IPS Officers’ salaries and pensions are met by the cadre State. Irrespective of the States they are serving, IPS officers have uniform pay scales throughout the country. The Police Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is responsible for all Cadre Control and Policy Decisions.
Civil Police Officers’ salaries and pensions are decided by the respective State governments. Primarily, the General Administration Departments (GAD) of the respective State Governments have powers with regard to classification of services, pay, cadre management, and training of state police officers.

Civil Police Officer’s Salary Pay Scale
- An early career Police Officer with 1-4 years of experience earns an average total compensation (includes tips, bonus, and overtime pay) of INR 200,000 annually.
- A mid-career Police Officer with 5-9 years of experience earns an average total compensation of INR 400,000 annually.
- An experienced Police Officer with 10-19 years of experience earns an average total compensation of INR 300,000 annually.
- In their late-career (20 years and higher), employees earn an average total compensation of INR 400,000.
IPS Officer’s Salary and Pay Scale
An IPSC Officer’s per month salary according to their rank is:

Conclusion
Apart from all this all government officials receive incentives for their jobs such as cars, houses, subsidized prices, and household help. A member of the police force will also work with the community to coordinate community service events and outreach programs and to offer educational services to the neighbourhoods the officer patrols.
People applying to join the police force must pass a strict background check including their criminal history, driving record, and credit reports, in order to ensure that all members of the police force are upstanding members of society who will be a good fit with the community. A police officer must be in and remain in good physical condition, as the job may sometimes require strenuous physical activity.
