Medical Examination of UPSC
The applicant will be notified to appear before the Central Standing Medical Board (CSMB), which has been established for the purpose of undertaking a medical assessment to determine a candidate’s mental and physical condition, and on the basis of this assessment, a candidate will be approved as fit or unfit for all facilities or temporarily unfit or unfit for technical support.

Technical Services necessitate additional medical qualifications in terms of vision, height, chest, chest expansion, and so on.

Designated Hospitals for IAS Medical Test
Candidates will be examined medically in seven specified hospitals in Delhi. They are as follows:
Safdarjung Hospital
Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital
Sucheta Kriplani Hospital
Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital
BR Ambedkar Hospital.
Candidates from the Physically Handicapped (PH) Category who apply for the Civil Services Prelims Exam will be tested in 5 hospitals, namely,
Safdarjung Hospital
Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital
LHMC
Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
All seven of the above-mentioned hospitals will conduct examinations for female applicants. When a female candidate needs to be investigated, a Lady Doctor will be appointed as a representative of the Medical Board.
Prepare for Medical Examination
Candidates are required to train themselves sufficiently in advance when contacting the Central Standing Medical Board for the medical review in order to prevent any negative and unfavourable results. It is recommended that you begin working out a few weeks or even months before the medical assessment date, particularly if you are selecting for IPS. Don’t wait until the last minute to get dressed. Build your stamina and health degree gradually and allow yourself enough prep time to shed some excess weight.

UPSC Eye Test: Standards for Distant & Near Vision
Technical Services
Distance vision: Better eye (corrected vision) is 6/6 or 6/9 and the worse eye is 6/12 or 6/9
Near vision: Better eye (corrected vision) is J1** and the worse eye is J2**
Types of corrections permitted: Spectacles, CL and Refractive Surgery* like Lasik, ICL, IOL etc
Limits of refractive permitted: +4.00 D (including cylinder)-Non- Pathological Myopia +4.00 D (including cylinder) (Hypermetropia)

Binocular vision needed: Yes
Non-Technical Services
Distance vision: Better eye (corrected vision) is 6/6 or 6/9 and worse eye is 6/18 to NIL or 6/12
Near vision: Better eye (corrected vision) is J1** J2 and the worse eye is J3 to NIL** J2
Types of corrections permitted: Spectacles, CL and Refractive Surgery like Lasik, ICL, IOL etc.
Limits of refractive permitted: None but without
colour vision requirements: Low grade
Binocular vision needed: No
Colour Vision for IAS Medical Test
Applicants must correctly define the character, and there’ll be puzzles in which you must map the route according to the colour.
colour vision can be rated as higher or lower based on the scale of the aperture in the lamp, as seen in the table below:

For IPS, Other Police Services, 1RTS and RPF, High-grade colour Vision is required
For the rest of the services under, Low-Grade colour Vision is acceptable
There is also a clause for appealing a medical board ruling if you believe an unfavourable report was issued. Another board will be established in another medical centre for the same purpose.

Advice for IAS Candidates
A day before the Medical Examination, the applicant should have fasted for at least 10 hours. They should not arrive for the Medical Examination without having taken some medication. If the applicants wear spectacles, Hearing Aid should carry them together with the medication. If the applicant wears contact lenses, they are advised to stop wearing them at least 48 hours before the medical test. The Candidate should carry details of any previous surgical procedures with him/her.
The applicant who belongs to the Physically Handicapped (PH) group is recommended to carry the equipment he/she is using as well as the ‘Disability Certificate’, if any, given to him or her in the background by any Disability Medical Board.
All pregnant applicants may be eligible for all forms of services, with the exception of those who require/require physical exercise. Many that need or receive physical exercise will be considered ‘Fit’ after confinement.
