Some people are prone to controversies, Anjali Birla seems to be one of those. News regarding speaker Om Birla’s daughter, Anjali Birla’s IAS success is doing the rounds as an entry through ‘backdoor channels’. Is this news true? Or are these just some baseless rumours? Read this article till the end to know all about IAS Anjali Birla’s Biography and mark sheet.

Anjali Birla Education and Qualification

Clearing the UPSC civil service exams is never easy, but Anjali Birla not only cleared the exam but was able to crack the prestigious UPSC exam in her first attempt. She managed to secure a rank of 67 in the UPSC 2019 – 20 exams.

Anjali Birla is an IAS officer who has completed her political science (honours) from Ramjas College Delhi University. She graduated in 2018, and she did not take part in the placement drive of her institute.

She has secured a rank of 67 in her first attempt and hence decided not to appear for the exam again. Her age is just 23 years. Anjali attended Sophia School in Kota, and she cleared her class 12th in Arts stream with distinction. She is the younger daughter of the Honorable Speaker of Lok Sabha, Mr. Om Birla.

Rumour Dismissing Facts

IAS Anjali Birla chooses the social platform of Instagram to dismiss the rumours. Here’s what she shared –

“When I read this viral tweet/post I laughed out so loud. Rumours have always been fun to hear but I haven’t come across such a baseless, mindless criticism,” Anjali Birla.

She added, “UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted in three stages stretched over a year & you can ONLY become a civil servant if you PASS all three of them. UPSC CSE is extremely fair & transparent process, there is no backhand entry. Please respect the institution at least.”

“It’s surely not an easy exam because only 900 make it to the final list when almost 5-6 lakhs students appear for it but that’s also true that it is just an exam – you study 12 hours everyday without fail for 2 years & you’d clear it!! (Luck still needed)

It is wrong to discredit someone’s blood & sweat only because of prevailing stereotypes.”

Aim of Joining the IAS

It wasn’t Anjali’s Childhood dream to join the IAS. While she was pursuing her honours degree from Ramjas College, she gained interest in the issues and difficulties India faced, and this was the general inclination with which she started the preparation. Over time, she got interested in the services, because she wished to be an effective leader and an officer wanted to get things done quickly.

Difficulties Faced while Preparing for UPSC

The foremost challenge faced by Anjali while preparing for UPSC exams was the amount of misinformation she faced. Anjali had set up her own goals and schedule as she was not satisfied by the work ethic and teaching methodologies of big institutes. Her elder sister designed a timetable for her which she followed diligently. She believes that each candidate approaches the IAS exam with a different strategy and it is not necessary that if a plan has worked for a particular individual, it might work for someone else also.

Preparation Strategy

Anjali started her preparation for IAS exams in June 2018, after she had graduated. She used to study 12 hours daily. She made it her life’s aim to clear the IAS exam. She met none of her friends, nor did she attend any family gatherings or parties for almost two years. She would take regular breaks while studying to keep her mind fresh.

She recommends reading newspapers such as Economic Times, The Hindu, Indian Express and Business Standard to prepare yourself for the mains exam. These newspapers offer an unbiased view which can help you answer subjective questions in the IAS main exam. She also recommends that you read Vision Monthly to get your daily dose of current affairs.

She believes that solving previous years question papers is a must as you will get to know questions of different patterns. This will help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses as well. She also recommends that you also solve test papers and analyse them properly. This will help you analyze your mistakes and you won’t repeat them in future.

Anjali Birla IAS Optional Subject

Anjali Birla had taken the optional subject of Political Science and International Relations because she graduated in the same subjects.  She believes that International Relations is a dynamic subject and you need to maintain your sources for the subject.

Choosing an optional subject which suits you is an important step as it will motivate you to prepare for it. If you enjoy the subject, you won’t consider it as a burden and you will study other subjects easily as well.
