LBSNAA and IAS Training
The training aims to increase the officers’ technical efficacy, allowing them to be more adaptable to changing situations in the country and the local region, as well as their mental resilience.
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) at Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, is where all new recruits go first. Regardless of the service, i.e., whether it is. Here, irrespective of the duty, i.e., whether administrators are inducted into the IPS, IFS, IAS, IRS, IFoS, etc. The initial practice called the ‘Foundation Course’ which runs for four months is held.
After Foundational Course
This is done to instil in all of the recruits a sense of “equality.” Probationers continue on to their various training institutions after this initial training period, depending on their service.
The IAS trainees stay in the LBSNAA for the duration of their course, which is around two years. Their Bharat Darshan and time at the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies in New Delhi are included in this time frame.

IAS Training Centre in India Mussoorie
Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the then-Union Home Minister, stated in the Lok Sabha on April 15, 1958, that the government would establish a National Academy of Administration, where all Civil Service recruits would be trained.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also planned to merge the IAS Staff College in Shimla and IAS Training School in Delhi to create the National Academy of Administration, which will be located on Mussoorie’s Charleville Estate. The activity in Metcalfe House was closed on the first day of September 1959.
Training Period at LBSNAA
All recruits to the All India Services and Central Services must complete a four-month foundation course at LBSNAA. By creating an esprit de corps, the training tries to instil a spirit of cooperation and coordination among various services.
According to the official website (lbsnaa.gov.in), the 95th Foundation Course for the 2020 batch began on August 24, 2020, and will end on December 4, 2020. The 2019 batch’s 94th Foundation Course began on August 26, 2019, and finished on December 6, 2019.
The training is divided into five phases.
Foundation Course
Phase-I
District Training
Phase-II
Assistant Secretary-ship
IAS Training Phase-1
After completing the Foundation Course, the IAS probationers (OTs) are split into groups and taken on a tour of India to learn about the country’s rich cultural diversity and heritage.
They meet with dignitaries, including India’s President.
For a more in-depth understanding, each group is affiliated with several executive/defence/administrative entities.
A week at the Lok Sabha Secretariat (Bureau of Parliamentary Studies) in Delhi is also part of Bharat Darshan.
Academic Module
LBSNAA offers a 15-week activity programme.
An IAS probationer’s usual day begins at 6 a.m. with an exercise drill.
Policymaking, land management, soft skills, project management, national security, and e-government are among the academic courses.
Cultural activities, trekking and adventure sports, horseback riding, volunteering, cross-country runs, and other activities fill the evenings and holidays.
IAS Training: District
Almost a year.
Being a part of the administrative structure in a certain district allows you to learn about it.
Understanding developmental issues, obstacles, solutions, and implementation from the ground up.
IAS Training: Phase 2
Individual learning experiences from Phase 1 and district training are shared, as well as articulating and analysing developmental obstacles and issues.
Special seminars with eminent topic matter experts will be held.
Assistant Secretary-ship
After completing their inpractice, the probationers are assigned to their respective deputies. However, a high-level committee recommended a few years ago that all IAS officers have some experience working in the Central Secretariat, so all IAS probationers are now given the title of Assistant Secretaries and work on a central deputation for a few months under the respective Joint Secretaries.
The IAS drill programme at LBSNAA is quite beneficial. The Bharat Darshan and District Training modules provide on-the-job practice for IAS probationers, while the academic sessions held at the LBSNAA prepare the recruits for the difficulties ahead.
