IPS Ravi Saini is an IPS officer who completed his schooling in Visakhapatnam. He holds a degree in MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College of Jaipur & has scripted a remarkable success in Civil Services Examination and qualified for the Indian Police Services Examination in 2014, with an All-India UPSC rank of 461.
In an interview, he said, “I was doing my internship after MBBS when I cleared UPSC. My father was in the navy and I joined the police force after being inspired by him.”
He became an IPS officer in the year 2014 & possesses wide experience of working under the government of India.
After completing his graduation, he shifted his attention towards UPSC and started preparing for it. He cleared the exam while he was interning after his MBBS.
He is the son of the retired honorary lieutenant Mohanlal Saini, who was a naval officer. His mother, Mrs. Sushila Devi, is a housewife & his elder brother, Sashi, is a software engineer. His sister, Shama, is a teacher in Alwar.
He is now all set to get married to an Indian girl.
Ravi Saini’s Strategy to Prepare for Civil Services Examinations
In one of his interviews, Ravi recalled that his success in the Civil Services examinations is one that of perseverance. When he was studying for his MBBS exams, his friends suggested he try his luck in the UPSC examinations.
He appeared in the exams for the first time in 2012 and was successful to clear the Preliminary as well as the Main exams but still couldn’t get through.
On being asked, how did he prepare for his exams; he answered that it was all his hard work & dedication for this exam that helped him get through it. He was inspired by his father who was in the Indian Navy at that time. He didn’t get any tuition for clearing the exams; it was all that he prepared on his own & cleared the exam on the third attempt.
He appeared for the exam second time in the year 2013 & was lucky enough to get selected for the Indian Post and Telecom, accounts, and finance services. But in the year 2014, he qualified for the Indian Police Services with an All-India Rank of 461.
In an interview, he said that “I did it without going to a coaching class.”
KBC Junior Winner
In the year 2000, there was a new format introduced for the show; KBC Junior which successfully came as a show in the year 2001. The top prize winner for the show was the son of an Indian Navy Officer, Ravi Mohan Saini, who answered 15 questions correctly while using one of his lifelines in the first question itself and won an amount of 1 crore on the show.
But it was not only KBC that made him famous & special; he later appeared for the MBBS examination & scored first division. He was a topper throughout his academic career. Along with this, he also appeared for the UPSC examination & cleared the Civil Services Examinations through self-study.

He was in class 10 when he appeared for the KBC junior in 2001. In an interview, he said that “I was the winner of 1 crore but I only got an amount of Rs, 69 lakhs, after a deduction of taxes, that too four years later.”
Later, all of this money was used by them to buy a car & a piece of land in Alwar. Also, some money was used by his parents for his education.
Also in an interview, he stated that “The desire to meet Amitabh Bachchan prompted me to try my luck that night.” “I used helplines sparingly and my brother was a great help on the “phone a friend” option.”
