A few days back a newspaper cutting photo that claimed that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has reduced the age limit of the general category students to 26 years for the Civil Cervices Exam candidates went viral on social media.
If this claim is true then it is very bad news for all the UPSC aspirants. UPSC exam is one of the toughest exams in our country. Many candidates take more than five attempts to crack this exam. That means the candidates will have to start his preparation at-least from the age of 20. This would be difficult because during that time many candidates would still pursuing his or her graduation.

The newspaper cutting which went viral, however, the article expresses only the possibility that the age limit of the UPSC CSE exam is going to be reduced. But by only reading the heading of the article you might feel like the news is confirmed.
Five years ago news similar to this went viral. Which was found to be a rumour. On the official site of UPSC, there is no such notification for candidates that claims that the age limit is reduced to 26 years.
By looking at all these facts is completely clear that these age-reducing new is nothing but a rumour. The newspaper cutting which went viral on social media was nothing but an attempt to create a sensation.
There is no reason to worry. There is no new age limit posted on the UPSC site. Instead of reducing there is a true new that many candidates have filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking for relaxation in UPSC 2021. The Supreme court has allowed the petition.
UPSC Age Limit News-Will UPSC Candidates Get an Extra Attempt in 2021?
24 UPSC aspirants have filled a petition is the Supreme Court seeking the relaxation of the number of attempts as well as the age limit due to the current pandemic situation. They make a case that the situation due to Covid-19 has highly affected their preparations for the UPSC CSE exam. Many candidates will be crossing the age limit next year.
Before this, the Supreme Court declined the petition to postpone the exam. Justice AM Khanwilkar has allowed the petition. The Supreme Court is considering giving an extra attempt to candidates but within the age limits
The UPSC Board of Counsel said that only candidates infected with the coronavirus during the time of the exam will be allowed to give an extra attempt.
The hearing will begin once the UPSC Board of Counsel replies to the Supreme Court.
Apart from the Covid-19, many candidates also missed the exam due to a lack of transportation available to reach the exam center.

UPSC Age limit 2021
The current age limits for the UPSC IAS exam is 32 years for a general candidate.
However, the current age limit for an SC/ST candidate is 37 years. For an OBC candidate, the age limit is 35, and for a Person with Disability (PwD) the limit is 42 years.
