Sonal Goel, an IAS from the 2008 batch, has been serving the country for more than a decade. In the Civil Services Examination, he was ranked 13th overall in India. She joined the Tripura Cadre and has served in a variety of important roles. She has spent more than 13 years of her life serving the country (including 10 years in Civil services).

She joined the Haryana cadre in July 2016 and has recently held the duties of Deputy Commissioner, District Jhajjar, and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, as well as Commissioner, CEO, Smart City Faridabad.

She was born in Panipat, Haryana, and had her education in Delhi. Her academic accomplishments are backed up by well-established credentials. She attended D.A.V. Public School for her education. She received her B.Com. from Shri Ram College of Commerce, D.U. (the world’s finest educational institute in commerce) (Hons.). She also holds a C.S. (Company Secretary) from ICSI in New Delhi, which complements her finance and commerce knowledge.

She has another prominent institute to her credit, the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, where she earned her L.L.B, which gives her jurisprudence profile some context. She also has a master’s degree in public policy from IGNOU, combining administration, law, and policymaking in a seamless manner. She is married to IRS Aditya Yadav.

IAS Sonal Goel Strategy for UPSC

To be sure about the eligibility conditions, age, and the number of attempts that can be awarded per category, consult the most recent UPSC notification. Decide how many years you are willing to spend on this process once you have clarity. A minimum of two years is required: one year prior to prelims and one year during the examinations.

12 Month Strategy by IAS Sonal

Phase 1 (combined studies: general foundation laying for Prelim/Mains) – May to October November to February is Phase 2 of the project (Mains Focus – Answer writing etc.) March to May is Phase 3 of the project (Prelims Exclusive) Phase 4 is scheduled to begin in June 2022. (after Prelims, again focus on mains study).

For Prelims

The first paper is about general studies. Aptitude Test (Paper 2) (comprehension, newspaper reading, current affairs, etc. is very important), Ability to reason logically, mental aptitude, up until class X, basic numeracy is required.

Paper II – is a qualifying paper that must be passed with a score of at least 33%.

For Mains

The most crucial factor in determining your selection and rank is your performance in the mains. Make your own notes to utilise during the revising process. Practice answering questions and keep up with current events by reading newspapers and magazines. It is critical to explicitly reproduce what you understand on a topic/issue in the exam.

Solve prior year’s question papers (maximum of three years) Alternatively, if you don’t want to be a researcher, take a mock exam series. Revisions should be done on a regular basis.

For Interview

It’s a personality test (P.T.) that covers all aspects of your personality (MARKS 275) It assesses communication skills, mental acuity, and stress tolerance, among other things. Work on your C.V. thoroughly, including your background, educational qualifications, hometown, location of education, work, interests, and so on. Work on your own appearance. Prepare responses regarding why you want to work for the government. It’s important to be specific about the system modifications you’re anticipating.

Importance of the Four P’s

Passion, Patience, Perseverance, and a Positive Attitude, according to Sonal, are essential qualities for all seekers. “Keeping these four processes in mind will help the applicant stay focused and precise in their thought process regardless of their level of preparation or effort on the paper,” Sonal explains.

She also emphasises the need of approaching these examinations with the right mindset. “Even if a candidate does not formulate it to the IAS, there are various different opportunities open to them,” she explains.

How to Choose an Optional Subject?

Sonal had chosen commerce and public administration for her optional subject in the UPSC examination. She says that it could be the same or something completely different.
