The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) was formed in 1946. The foreign secretary is the framework supervisory authority for the IFS. The Foreign Secretary of India is India’s topmost diplomat and leader of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The recent and 33rd Foreign Secretary is Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who took office on 29 January 2020. Shringla belongs to a 1984 IFS batch. DGP (Director General of Police) is the highest authority in any police state. In India, the Director General of Police  is given three stars and is the topmost police officer in the Indian States and Union Territories. All DGPs are members of the Indian Police Service. The DGP is normally the head of the state police force in each and every state of India. The salary of DGP is Rs. 80,000.

What is the Basis for Allocation of Cadres

Cadre is assigned to the preferred candidate on the basis of the following categories:

The candidate’s rank in the Civil Service Test.

  • The applicant’s order of choice for service.
  • The applicant’s category.
  • Availability of vacancies in the division of nominees.
  • Reports of the Medical Board/Appellate Board with respect to the nominee.

When filling out the Detailed Application Form , candidates are asked for zone and framework preferences if they are selected. Candidates  have to make a choice among the different zones in the descending order.   After  classifying the zone priorities, candidates need to show the preferences of the cadres in each desired zone. Subsequently, the candidates will show their second preference for each choice region.

The cadre allocation  for the IAS is carried out before the start of the Foundation Course in the LBSNAA. The framework of cadre allocation for the IPS or IFOS is carried out immediately after the appointments have been made.
