Antara Acharya’s IAS journey began when she joined the Jyotirmoy Pal Chaudhuri of the Institute of Civil Service Aspirants. After clearing the UPSC civil service exam in 2006 IAS Antara Acharya was posted as the sub-divisional officer in Serampore. Then she was the additional district magistrate of Durgapur. She was then posted as the Additional District Magistrate, Asansol and was the Chief – Executive Officer of Asansol – Durgapur Development Authority. She then became the District Magistrate of East Midnapore. After that, she took charge of North 24 – Parganas which is her current posting.
What is IAS Antara Acharya’s Strategy to Manage Work and Home?
Antara lives at her home in Salt Lakes with her mother – in – law and two daughters. Her husband is in Delhi. Her elder daughter Arushi is in Class fifth and her younger daughter Oishee is in KG. She says that her daughters understand that their mother is a working individual. But once Antara is home she no longer is the District Magistrate. She tries to spend a lot of time with her daughters even though they have tutors. They have already made plans about what activities they want to perform once the exams are over.
What are the Biggest Challenges Faced by Antara Acharya in Her Job?
Antara mentions thatNorth 24-Parganas is one of the largest districts of Bengal with a population of 1.1 crores. The city is divided into two parts. On one side there are the urban areas under the Bidhannagar and Barrackpore corporations and on the other side the rural areas which are Hasnabad, Bongaon and Basirhat. The population in the district is diverse with different communities. Antara has to coordinate with a number of departments for infrastructure and other development work, which is quite a challenge.
Antara aims to expand National Highway 34. This has decreased the time taken to reach Dark Bungalow from Salt Lake to a bare 40 minutes. She is also working on making the 16km stretch four lanes from Santoshpur to Dalkhola in North Dinajpur from the existing two-lane highway.
Antara’s Advice to Students Preparing for UPSC
Antara believes that each individual in the country wants good administrators, whether it is in the corporate sector or while serving the government. You have the chance to help people and find innovative solutions to help citizens. She advises students to read newspapers on a daily basis while preparing for current affairs. This will definitely help them improve their rank. She also advises you to choose an optional subject which you want to pursue rather than being advised by someone else.
