Anuradha Pal’s Optional Subject

Anuradha chose History as an optional subject. There are many benefits to choosing history over any other optional subjects. History is an interesting subject. It explains a lot of things happening currently in the economy, socio-politics, etc. You can treat it as a story and it is easy to understand. There are no big formulas or concepts which you have to memorize. Studying history develops a good reading habit as well.

It is by and large a static subject and there are not a lot of changes in the syllabus. So, if you cover this subject once, it won’t change in the next two-three years. So, if you are attempting the IAS more than once, your preparation will get easier. In general studies papers, writing about the historical perspective of things provides depth to your arguments. Here, history preparation can help.

General studies papers in both prelims and mains contain portions from history. Here, you can optimise time by preparing for optional and GS papers together. Topics in history will also be helpful while you attempt the essay paper.
