LBSNAA- Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration

LBSNAA is located in Mussoorie and is a training centre for IAS officers. It was established in 1985. The head of the LBSNAA is the secretary of the Indian government.

This training centre works under the Ministry of Personnel, Public grievances and Pensions. It is situated in the beautiful hills of Mussoorie.

The main aim of this training centre is to train future IAS cadre and civil service group-A. Moreover at the end of the training period cadres will be awarded their MA degree in Public Management from JNU.

Apart from training new IAS officers. LBSNAA also conducts foundational training for State Civil Services, and mid-career training programs for bureaucrats.

Training Period

Every candidate who qualifies for UPSC exams has to undergo a training period where they are taught basics about the civil service of India.

The total training period of UPSC Aspirants in LBSNAA after joining lasts for two years. It is divided into several parts.

Foundation course

This course lasts for five months. The selected grade is central services, as well as civil services candidates, who are trained for this foundation course. Later candidates for general central services are allocated at their respective academies.

IFS candidates go to Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi and IPS candidates go to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Book police academy.

But IAS candidates continue to get trained in LBSNAA academy.

Bharat Darshan

After the foundation course, The IAS trainees are sent on a trip around the country for about 45 to 50 days.

On this trip, they are taken to important states of the country. They will go to different units of the government such as PSU, NGOs, armed services, and many more.

In this part of training, they get to meet various district administrations.

Phase I

This phase is upheld, for about February to May. It includes core training for a candidate.

District Training

They get their respective posting in districts. They will get posted as assistant administrators, and this training period lasts about 11 months. This is a practical training experience for candidates.

Phase Two

The IAS trainees gather at Mussoorie again for about two months.

Assistant Secretaryship

After phase two, they are located in New Delhi under different ministries as assistant secretaries.

They get experience working under the central government and other ministries of various departments.

After successful training, the President of India appoints successful officers.

Location

The LBSNAA is located 6580 feet above sea level and is spread over 185 acres of land. It is located in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India.

Songs

LBSNAA has its academy song. This academy song is composed by Shri. Atul Prasad Sen. was a lawyer, philanthropist, social worker and educationist.

This song reflects the true character of an IAS officer and instils motivation among young cadres.

Facilities

Teaching Centres

Classes of LBSNAA are well equipped and spacious. Classes are conducted in four buildings Karmashila, Dhruvshila, Gyanshila, and Aadharshila. These buildings have their lecture halls, mess, and lounge.

Hostels

There are three main hostels at LBSNAA: Ganga, Kaveri and Narmada.

All rooms of these hostels are fully furnished, have wifi facilities as well as TVs.

Officer for mid-career training stays at Silverwood, Happy Valley and Mahanadi executive hotels.

Moreover, the institute also has studio apartments too.

Library

Gandhi Smriti Library at LBSNAA has thousands of books, DVDs and newspapers for the cadres.

Mess

The officer mess at LBSNAA is responsible for formal as well as informal meetings. They serve delicious delicacies to cadres.

Indira Bhawan Complex

It has workshops, classes and other facilities.

IT Service

The IT service of LBSNAA is Sargam. It manages all activities of the training centre.

Dispensary

The dispensary has doctors and nurses for the cadres. It is fully equipped for dental care.

PWD Candidates

There are special facilities at LBSNAA for PWD candidates. Elevators, ramps, different restrooms, hostels and room services.

A Day at LBSNAA

#1. The day starts at 6 am. The candidates are required to exercise at the gym, horse riding, or jogging.

#2. After this, you will have one hour to have your breakfast.

#3. The first classes will start at 9 am. There will be five to six classes and each will last 55 minutes.

#4. At 5 pm, you will have to participate in various sports and athletic activities.

#5. Cultural programs are scheduled before 8 pm.

#6. At 8 pm, the trainees are offered dinner.

#7. During weekdays and holidays, they have to participate in various extracurricular activities, club activities, and sports.

Sports Activities

LBSNAA places importance on the physical fitness of the offices. The facilities of LBSNAA have various sports and world-class equipment.

This includes indoor as well as outdoor sports such as athletics football, volleyball, cricket yoga, billiards, etc.

Trekking

The candidates are also sent to the greater Himalaya for trekking where they learn to cope up with bad weather, insufficient accommodation, and limited food facilities.

They will also be sent to various rural areas for community service to learn how they live their lives.

Moreover, the candidate has to take part in various clubs. This includes:
