Amit Kataria IAS Controversies

In the year 2015, IAS Amit Kataria came under the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Controversy erupted when this braveheart officer welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to Dantewada in Chhattisgarh.

Known for his outstanding work in Naxal affected areas of Chattisgarh, this IAS attracted loads of negative views and media attention due to his attire while welcoming the PM of India.

The Bastar DM, wore a formal shirt and trouser in that event instead of the formal suit or a ‘bandhgala.’ He was also seen wearing black sunglasses.

In response to this incident, the Chhattisgarh government, issued a notice to Bastar District Magistrate Amit Kataria saying that the IAS officer has not shown integrity and devotion towards his duty by violating the protocol.

Reaction to Controversy

The 2004 batch IAS officer, Amit Kataria defended himself by stating,

“Bastar is very hot in May with temperatures above 40 degree. Wearing bandhgala for hours, while looking after arrangements, is not practical. I was dressed in a complete formal dress, blue shirt, black trousers, black leather shoes, not any t-shirt or chappals and blue is a good colour in formal shirts.”

He also added,

“Governor, CM, CS, DGP came 5 min before from circuit house ‘properly’ dressed and received the PM before me. I was standing and managing for them for many hours in the hot sun and was really sweating and eyes burning. I decided not to wear the coat which I had put in my car”.
