Madhumita IAS belongs to the small town Samalkha of Panipat. She secured 86th rank in the civil services exam. This dream was hereditarily transferred from her father who also wished to become an IAS once. Moreover, he even gave his civil services exam in 1987 though couldn’t clear it but this unfulfilled dream was fulfilled by his daughter.
Her father Mahavir Singh is an ex-serviceman in the Air force and now an auction recorder in the market committee office. Her Mother Darshan Devi is a homemaker and she also has two brothers, among which one works in a private company.

Educational Background
Madhumita completed her schooling at Maharaja Agrasen School and secured 96% in 10th and 88% in her 12th. For her graduation, she pursued BBA from PIET College and an MA in Public Administration from IGNOU. She also is a gold medalist in the All India Maths Olympiad conducted by Kurukshetra University. After completing her UPSC coaching from Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi.

Beginning of Her UPSC Journey
Madhumita began her first attempt for the UPSC Civil Service in 2017. In her first attempt only she cleared the Mains examination but couldn’t pass the Interview. Despite getting discouraged she again gave her second attempt in 2018. This time she couldn’t even clear Preliminary.
This time she prepared again with double hard work and dedication for this she moved to Delhi to take her preparation to the next level. There she also joined the test series and this time successfully cleared UPSC and also secured 86th rank.
Madhumita gives credit for her success to her parents. According to her, they were her constant support and motivated her to pursue her dream despite the continuous approach of relatives for her marriage. And finally, she cleared her examination making her parents and Panipat proud of her.
The Unrequited Dream of Her Father
“It was my father’s dream…..he always wanted to see me a top-level officer.”- IAS Madhumita.
As mentioned above, Madhumita’s father Mr Mahavir Singh wanted to become an IAS officer. But due to various circumstances, she couldn’t. But who knew that this unfulfilled dream would be taken forward to success by his daughter after so many years. From childhood, she made up her mind to fulfil this dream and never thought of any other career.
From the constant support of her parents, she could ignore all other negativities and successfully cleared her civil services.
Focus on the Goal like the Arjuna
Rather than focusing on any kind of disturbance Madhumita kept her vision clear. She sacrificed her social life and also went away from her family. Moreover, when it was the wedding of her cousin she also didn’t attend. At last, her sacrifice was successful and she was able to clear her UPSC.

IAS Madhumita’s UPSC Preparation Strategy
#1. Focus
According to Madhumita, you should focus on your goal rather than getting disturbed or distracted by your surroundings. You should not use social media but that does not mean you have to abandon your mobile phone or enjoy full stops.
Rather, you can use your mobile phone to your advantage for getting access to online study materials and also take out one or two hours from your timetable for relaxation and other leisure activities.
#2. Analyse Syllabus
You cannot go without a clear vision or a roadmap. Therefore the very first thing you should do before starting your preparation is to analyze the syllabus. UPSC syllabus is lengthy and detailed 1 and not having a clear perspective of the exam will never help you.
#3. Answer Writing
After the preparation of your prelims,you should be given answer writing. The answer writing is an integral part of the Mains examination. Try to write one or two answers every day
#4. Mock Test
In Madhumita’s successful journey, the test series played a vital role. After getting disappointed with her first two attempts she moved to Delhi and enrolled herself in the test series.
