Saurabh Rao, an Indian Administrative Service officer from the 2003 batch, was recently named as the municipal commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Rao carries a thorough understanding of Pune city with him thanks to his extensive knowledge. He has earned recognition for his service as a district collector in the capital, where he was instrumental in the adoption of the Jalyukta Shivar project, which targeted to ensure water supply in drought-prone regions.
His other accomplishments include his participation in the rescue and recovery operations following a significant landslide in Malin (Pune) in 2014, as well as his role in finalising the plan for a new greenfield international airport in Purandar, Pune, that has now been accepted by the Ministry of Defence.
He and his wife, Dr Priyanka, have two twins, Vasavi and Aanjaneya, who are both studying in Pune.
