How to Become an IPS Officer after 12th?

To get into the IPS, one has to qualify for the following eligibility conditions-

General

1. One has to be an Indian citizen
2. One should be a graduate from a deemed university in any discipline recognised by UGC
3. Appear for and clear the UPSC CSE that is, the Prelims, Mains, and Interview
4. One should be at least 21 years of age

Age Limit and Attempts

1. People belonging to the General category can attempt the exam 7 times. Their maximum age limit is 32 years.
2. People belonging to the OBC can attempt the exam 9 times. Their maximum age limit is 35 years.
3. People belonging to SC/ST can attempt the exam indefinitely. Their upper age limit is 37 years.
4. Physically handicapped candidates from the General and OBC categories can attempt the exam 9 times while those belonging to SC/ST categories can attempt it innumerable times.
5. The age relaxation for the physically handicapped is up to 10 years.
6. The age relaxation for the residents of Jammu & Kashmir is 5 years.

Physical Requirements

1. Men from the General category need to be at least 165cm in height while men from other categories can be 160cm.
2. Women from the General category should be of 150cm while those from other categories can be 145 cm.
3. The chest size of men should be 84cm at least and expand up to 5cm.
4. The chest of women should be 79cm at least and expand up to 5cm.
5. The distance vision should be 6/6 or 6/9.
6. Candidates with a squint in their eyes are not eligible for the post.
7. The candidates need to have binocular vision and high-grade colour vision.

Medical Qualifications

1. The Blood Pressure should be as follows according to the age group-

1. They should have a normal ear cavity and good listening capacity. For a frequency of 1000-4000, the hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels.
2. The candidates must not have speech impairments such as stammering while speaking.
3. At the time of the Medical Test, the woman must not be pregnant.
4. The candidates must have a high standard for the colourblind test.
5. The candidate must have a stereoscopic vision and not suffer from night blindness.

The salary of an IPS Officer can range from INR 70,000 per month to INR 2,12, 650 per month based on their experience and ranks.

Which Subject is Best for IPS?

There are no provisions or benefits for anyone in the UPSC CSE. Several people from the science, engineering, and medical stream who attempt the exam and ace it. If you want to have a base or background for the exam syllabus, then you can choose the Commerce or Humanities streams. These streams allow you to study subjects such as History, Geography, Civics, and Economics that are important in the Civil Services exam.

You don’t have to specifically start mugging up the syllabus in the school itself though, as it would take another 3-4 years of study before you’re allowed to take the exams.
