Shubham Kumar IAS was born and raised in the small village of Bihar, Kumhari Kadwa, District-Katihar. He spent his childhood and teenage life in Bihar.

He did his first schooling from a regional school which was situated in his village and finished his secondary study from a school in Parora, Purnia, Vidya Vihar Residential School. He finished his senior secondary schooling in Jharkhand, Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro.

After finishing his high school education, Kumar started preparing for the entrance test of engineering and obtained the rank of 219th, and straightly got entry to India’s topmost university IIT Bombay.

Indian Administrative Officer Kumar secured All India Rank 1 by scoring total marks of 1054 in the year 2020. He scored 878 marks in the written and in the personality test he secured 176 marks. His UPSC Strategy

Heightening upon his strategy to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission exam, IAS Kumar said, “I gave my first attempt in 2018 immediately after graduating from IIT Bombay civil engineering 2018. I was not working during the preparations of UPSC. I will put all my efforts into public services.” He followed certain strategies during his preparation because this time he was determined to crack the examination. Kumar said that in his mains examination, Anthropology was his optional subject. Kumar also shared his opinions about the beautiful state of Bihar and said that Bihar is filled with opportunities and all industries are growing in the region.

Approximately, about 761 aspirants have been recommended for nomination based on the written test and the personality exam which was conducted in August-September 2021. TheCSE (Prelims), 2020 was held on October 4 the previous year. Out of all the candidates, IAS Shubham secured AIR rank 1st. All his hard work and dedication has paid off.

The Civil Services Exam is held by the Union Public Service commission in 3 phases – Prelims, Main, and Interview and in all the stages he secured excellent scores (1054 marks).

Shubham Kumar Interview

In an interview, IAS Kumar said that the growth of villages, job creation, and poverty alleviation in rural regions of the nation would be his main priority. He further added,

“My dream was to get into the IAS as it gives a wider platform to work for the betterment of the people. It has been realised and I would like to work for the underprivileged people, especially in rural areas.

My father used to motivate me a lot and helped me in maintaining a positive attitude that helped me in clearing the exam. I have been preparing since 2018. I could not believe the results today. I will perform with my fullest capacity in whichever position I’m assigned to.”

“I used to have a fear of disqualification before the prelims and mains. I was fortunate to have the constant support of my friends and family. I had a good plan for study, used to self analyse so my preparation was on track.

I was not expecting this rank. Neither I nor my family could believe it when we first saw the rank list. It took us some time to realise that this had actually happened. My parents are thrilled with my success… As an IAS officer, I will work with a focus on rural development. I will be really happy if I get Bihar cadre.”

The Union Public Service Commission exam can’t be cracked by just being good in academics.
